MODERN SLAVERY AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING STATEMENT
For the financial year ending 31 December 2024
Prepared in accordance with section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015
Introduction
Omoda & Jaecoo UK Ltd. (“OJUK”) is committed to conducting its business ethically, responsibly, and transparently. We adopt a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, forced labour, and human trafficking in all forms.
This statement sets out the steps we has taken during the financial year ending 31 December 2024 to prevent and address modern slavery and human trafficking, in line with our obligations under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
Our Organisation and Supply Chains
OJUK is the UK subsidiary of Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., responsible for the distribution, marketing, and aftersales support of Omoda, Jaecoo, and other Chery branded vehicles in the UK market.
Our operations in the UK are supported by:
- Manufacturing facilities and component suppliers based in China and other global regions.
- A nationwide dealer network, supported by UK-based logistics providers and authorised service centres.
- Third-party partners for IT, marketing, professional services, and facilities management.
We work closely with Chery group companies to ensure suppliers adopt sustainable and ethical practices, aligned with Chery’s global ESG strategy and Supplier Code of Conduct.
Policies on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking
OJUK operates the following policies to combat modern slavery and protect human rights:
- Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy – zero-tolerance commitment, prohibiting forced, bonded, or child labour.
- Supplier Code of Conduct – requiring compliance with international conventions, ethical labour standards, safe working conditions, dignity and respect for workers, and ESG risk controls (including conflict minerals).
- Recruitment Policy – only reputable employment agencies may be used; agency practices are verified before engagement; all workers must have freely chosen employment.
- Whistleblowing Policy – multiple reporting channels, confidentiality protections, and strict prohibition of retaliation against whistleblowers.
- Employee Code of Conduct – requiring ethical behaviour and compliance with UK and international labour standards.
Due Diligence Processes
OJUK undertakes supplier due diligence as part of Chery’s global procurement framework, which includes:
- Pre-qualification checks (background, legal, compliance, and ESG).
- Review of supplier policies to confirm no offences relating to modern slavery.
- Contractual clauses requiring compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and Chery’s Supplier Code of Conduct.
- Supplier audits and unannounced inspections (carried out by Chery group) to review labour practices, health and safety, and ethical compliance.
- Corrective action plans for identified risks, with escalation to suspension or termination for repeated or serious breaches.
Risk Assessment and Management
OJUK conducts regular assessments of risk across its supply chains, with focus on:
- Geographical risks – suppliers in countries with higher prevalence of forced or child labour.
- Sector risks – logistics, raw materials, and outsourced labour, where exploitation risks are heightened.
- Operational risks – agency recruitment, temporary labour, and third-party contractors.
The OJUK’s Legal Department oversees risk assessments, supported by Chery’s Sustainability Management Committee and global ESG governance framework.
Training and Awareness
We recognise the importance of training in preventing modern slavery:
- All relevant O&J UK staff complete training on modern slavery awareness and ethical sourcing during on-boarding.
- Procurement, HR, and compliance teams receive enhanced training on supplier due diligence, labour rights, and ESG compliance.
- Board members and senior management receive annual ethics and compliance training, achieving 100% participation group-wide.
Continuous Improvement
O&J UK is committed to continuous improvement and will:
- Expand supplier audits across the UK dealer network.
- Enhance raw material traceability, particularly regarding conflict minerals.
- Strengthen cross-border collaboration with Chery’s Sustainability Management Committee to monitor group-level ESG risks.
- Share best practices with industry peers and external stakeholders.
